Jan Sobieski's division at Podhajce
Jan Sobieski's division at Podhajce
Today another PDF with historical commander and his division: hetman Jan Sobieski and Polish troops defending camp at Podhajce in 1667. We tried to recreate very specific composition of Polish troops, so expect something different then average division from main rulebook. Players can (in fact had to...) field armed peasant supporting Sobieski's troops against Tartars and Cossacks.
You can now download PDF from BFaS website (click photo to start download)
We hope You will enjoy these rules!

Player's sheet - interactive pdf
Player's sheet - interactive pdf
We would like to present player’s sheet, that could be helpful during tournaments. Although in pdf format, it can be edited: so You can fill it in on Your computer or – if need be – just print blank and fill by hand before the games. Below short tutorial how to prepare it. You can download it from our website.
First write Your main information: name, surname, nick and name of army (nationality) that You will be using. Next step is to fill in part with units. You write them down in same order as they’re in Skirmish Sheet in rulebook/pdf. So first units from base of Skirmish (from left to right), then units from next levels, on the very bottom additional units and artillery.
Example:
Polish Skirmish Force (1650-66) on level FSP8 with 5 bases of Volunteers and two additional bases: one Wallachian and one pancerni, we write in such way (in brackets number of bases):
- pancerni [3]
- cossacks [3]
- cossacks [2]
- cossacks [2]
- Wallachians [2+1]
- pancerni [2+1]
- Wallachians [2]
- Volunteers [3/2]
We can use some short version of unit’s name, so here ‘cossacks’ means ‘cossack style cavalry’. Number of bases written as [2+1] means that we bought additional bases. Number of bases of Volunteers [3/2] means that 5 bases of these soldiers are divided into two banners: one of 3 and one of 2 bases.
Add all commanders You will field, alongside with their Command Points; then You can finish with Force Strength Points, Reconnaissance and losses thresholds for Your force.
Such sheet will make it much easier for referee to check if composition of Your force is legit.
Fill in all three cards and cut them out. During tournament, once You decided which Force You will use for the battle, You place its sheet covered on table. Both You and Your opponent uncover them at the same time and show to each other.
Even if You only take one or two forces to the tournament, You can still have three cards, so the opponents won’t know which Force will be used.
Hope You will find it useful during Your games!

2. Limited ammunition rules (written down) and all optional rules (excluding: Average Rolls and Group Orders) will be used, unless both players decide otherwise.
3. In the first battle the pairs shall be drawn so that armies of the same nations do not fight against each other. In the following battles players will be paired according to points scored, so that armies of the same nations do not fight against each other. If the difference between players is more than 1 Large Point, or there is no possibility to pair otherwise there might be a situation where 2 players with the same army play against one another.
4. Send your tournament entries to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The entry should include:
- First name and surname of the player
- City
- Army of choice
- Up to 3 Skirmish Force lists (see Army Composition)
5. Send entries only in the form of a PLAYER’S CARD – the card is due to be published.
6. If you send the required information by 23.03.2014 you will receive 1 Large Point for the final classification.
7. The final entry acceptance date is 27.03.2014.
8. Information on entry will be posted in this thread with the information on the nation of choice.
Army Composition:
1. Army lists published in the main rulebook and BFAS website can be used in the tournament.
2. In every battle you may use a different version of the Skirmish Force list of the nation of your choice. The version is chosen after you know the nation you will be facing.
3. The players are obliged to have readable Skirmish Force lists with:
a) Force Strength Points of the whole Skirmish Force
b) Force Value
c) Reconnaissance Points
In order to make it easier for referees to check the lists each Skirmish Force should be described with a name, level used and additional operations such as: adding bases, exchange of units etc.
4. The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth army will be divided into Polish, Lithuanian and Danzig armies.
5. In addition to their army the players should also bring as many field fortifications models as may be necessary for them. If a player does not have such fortifications they may not use them in a game.
Look of the Army:
1. Armies should be completely painted and have their bases finished.
2. WYSIWYG rule is in force. Shields and arquebuses are excluded from the WYSIWYG rule (in case of cavalry). This equipment is barely visible so it will not cause confusion.
3. A complete ban on proxies is in force – that is using a model of one formation as a model of another formation.
4. The tournament is organized by Wargamer company and only Wargamer figures can be used. This does not apply to terrain elements, obstacles and field fortifications.
5. Conversions are allowed. You need to notify the head referee about them in advance and he will decide whether to allow them on the tournament.
Points:
Players score Small Points in a battle by specifying the type of victory. The payer that lost receives 0 SP, and the winner gets the difference between the points he scored and the points scored by the opponent.
Large Points are granted for the level of victory or defeat:
0 – Historical defeat
1 – Strategic defeat
2 – Tactical defeat
3 - Draw
4 – Tactical victory
5 - Strategic victory
6 – Historical victory
Classification Rules:
1. The classification is made according to Large Points.
2. If several players have the same number of Large Points the classification is decided by Small Points.
3. If there is still a tie the classification is decided by the result of a direct game between those players (number of Small Points in this game).
4. If there is still a tie the classification is decided by the number of Historical Victories.
5. If there is still a tie the classification is decided by the number of Strategic Victories.
6. If there is still a tie the classification is decided by the number of Tactical Victories.
7. If there is still a tie the classification is decided by fate (we will draw the winner for example by a throw of a coin – the winner gets the higher place and the looser gets the Wargamer ducat that was thrown).
Prizes:
1. You can get prizes for two things – battles won (depending on the scale of victory) and places in the tournament classification.
2. The winner will receive as many ducats as there were players participating in the tournament. The second player will receive half of this amount, third player a quarter (rounding down) and so on. The last player will receive one ducat so he can pay for the burial of his soldiers.
3. Prizes for won battles. Every Tactical Victory grants 1 ducat, Strategic grants 2 and a Historical Victory - 4.
For example – colonel Douglas wins a tournament with 14 participants. He won one tactical and two strategic victories. This grants him 14 ducats for winning the tournament and 5 ducats for the victories – a total of 19 ducats. Another player, colonel Svensson was 5th (two tactical victories and one draw). Unfortunately he does not make it to the podium but still he will not leave empty handed – two tactical victories grant him 2 ducats.
