By Fire and Sword – English version



The premiere of the English version of By Fire and Sword will take place on
20 April 2013 at the SALUTE 2013 in London. Before the premiere, at the
beginning of March, we will start a crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo in
order to gather means for the print of the English version of the rulebook.
By supporting us in the campaign you will have the opportunity to receive,
apart from the rulebook, a number of specially prepared gifts (a special
supplement, limited figures, posters and t-shirts).


The rulebooks along with the gifts will be available for pick up at SALUTE
2013 or will be delivered to you via post after the premiere.

In the coming weeks a downloadable preview of the English version of the
rulebook will be available at our website.

New Products


We would like to present new sets for Ottoman Empire, Muscovites and Cossacks, that will be
available for sale from next Monday. They will be send out to shops and also can ordered in
our online store.

Muscovite light artillery


Set of light guns for the Muscovite army. The set allows you to field 3 guns – two 1.5 pound
falconets and one 4-pounder. For the falconets use the small gun carriage (including the characteristic
Muscovite triangular gun carriage) and barrels, for the 4-pounder use the largest barrel and gun carriage.
The set includes also 6 artillerymen and a set of additional elements (barrels, artillery tools etc.)

Ottoman light artillery


Set of light guns for the Turkish army. The set allows you to field 3 guns – one 300-dirhem darbzen
and  two 1-oka darbzens. For the 300-dirhem darbzen use the small gun carriage and the smallest
of 3 barrels, for the 1-oka darbzens use the larger gun carriages and the 2 larger (ornamented)
barrels. The set includes also 6 artillerymen and a set of additional elements (barrels, artillery tools etc.)






Plastuny


Plastuny: the name of those scouts derives from the word meaning to lie flat on the ground. These
small groups of scouts operated within enemy territory gathering information and getting prisoners.
During night operations they blackened their faces and hands with wood-tar. They were armed
with a mix of various weapons. In order to retain mobility they kept their equipment to minimum.
They had sabers and long rifled firearms. Those moloitsy usually avoided combat and restricted
themselves to reconnaissance operations, disorganizing the enemy and attempts to shoot enemy
commanders.

1. By Fire and Sword in English

The English version is approaching fast. The translation is coming to an end and intensive

proofreading is underway. Typesetting of the first two parts of the rulebook, Introduction and

Rules, already started. We are planning to publish the English in next year.

Soon we will show you a preview of the English version of the rulebook.

2. Upcoming Products:

The Ottoman Empire Skirmish Set

The Ottoman Empire Skirmish Force is a great set for the beginning of your adventure

with “By Fire and Sword”. The set includes a small skirmish force from European provinces –

one of the variants of an Ottoman Skirmish Force – that allows playing the game at Skirmish

Level. The set includes a Sanjakbey, a unit of Sipahi with lances; three units of Sipahi and

two units of light cavalry (Gonullu or Besli).

Swedish light artillery

Petyhorcy – medium Lithuanian cavalry armed with half-lances or spears. They wore chain-mails, mail
coifs and hand-guards. It was a universal formation able both to conduct reconnaissance and flanking
operations as well as to make frontal charges in support of winged hussars.

After the Cossack wagon-train edition was sold out we decided to make some changes to it. This means an

addition of new sculpts of the wagons. The remade wagon-train will arrive at our store about the 15^th September.

Swedish dragoons set was also remodeled. New, slightly modified dragoon figures will be sold in the following sets:

New „By Fire and sword” sets

A few new „By Fire and sword” sets have just been delivered to the stores! Those of you who

play the Muscovites, or would like to start playing the Kingdom of Sweden fraction will be

particularly excited!

I. Muscovite High Command

The Muscovite army was commanded by the tsar himself. However, during campaigns

trusted voivodes, appointed by the ruler, led in his stead. They were granted the title

of the first voivode and commanded the so called great regiment. Voivodes’ regiments

(equivalents of a division) were commanded by voivodes. Ordinary regiments (pulk) were

led by colonels called golova. In new pattern regiments the officer corps was similar to the

one in Western European armies – regiments were commanded by colonels (oberst) or

lieutenant colonels.

II. Muscovite Reiters

Muscovite Reiters – this formation was created in Moscow in 1632, however it did not

appear in larger numbers until after 1654, during the war with Poland and Lithuania.

The reiters were the main strike force of Muscovite cavalry in the second half of the

17th Century. It was organized according to Western European model; also many

of the officers were foreigners. Units were disciplined, well trained and armed – mostly

with imported weapons. Reiters were equipped with long firearms (arquebuses),

a pair of pistols and a backsword or saber. Armor included a metal Western pattern

helmet and a breastplate.

III.Sweden Kingdom Skirmish

Swedish Skirmish Set is a great start for everyone who wants to begin an adventure

with "By Fire and Sword". The set includes the basis of a Detachment – one of the

variants of a Swedish skirmish force. It lets you play at this level of the game.

The set includes a Colonel, two Reiter companies, two Dragoon companies

and a 3pdr regimental gun with crew.

Reiters were the basic Swedish cavalry unit in the 17th century. National reiters – Swedish

and Finnish did not use any armor in this period and wore only a leather jerkin.

On their heads they wore felt hats instead of the much more expensive helmets.
Their armament included a pair of pistols and a backsword. In combat Swedish

reiters usually charged with drawn swords but sometimes also used their pistols.

Dragoons - Mounted infantry called dragoons were perfect support for the Swedish

cavalry. Mobility was its main advantage – it was able to keep up with cavalry on

the march and dismount later to provide fire support on the battlefield.

Regimental gun – easy to transport,  provided good support for cavalry and

infantry. Fire of regimental artillery greatly increased the firepower of musketeers.

The guns could shoot case-shot shot and cannonballs.
